OK ... for those of you not on facebook or didn't see the status ... I became an Uncle again today.

My youngest brother Patrick and his wife Sally had twins!

Names are:

William Bennet Dix - 5lbs 5oz and John Travers (J.T.) Dix at 5lbs 15 oz born at 10:41 AM and 10:44 AM respectively.

Proud parents are doing great. Will post pictures when I get them.

Today I cannot tell you how proud I am to be an American. After looking at everyone's posts on their voting experience I stand in awe of how great this country of ours truly is ... Average Americans are actually getting involved and voting!

Today I cast my ballot for Barack Obama ... I walked right in the door and didn't have to wait at all. Thanks to dpnash I was actually able to make informed decisions on our local judges as well.

I have never missed a chance to vote since I turned 18 and don't plan on it now.

If you haven't already .... GO VOTE! There isn't much time left!

Shitty Day / Awesome talk with my Boss

OK ... So I had a really shitty day at work.

I start my day and everything is going fine ... all of the people that work with me show up on time and things before the show go really well.

So about 15 minutes before air I go into the control room to get set up for the show. The TD (technical director) says he needs to talk to me. He begins by telling me (demanding really) that I no longer say the word "effect" when I am directing.

Confused I say ..."What?!"

TD: " You don't know what the word means so you can't use it any more.

ME: ,,,"UH???!!!!"

Then he proceeds to tell me that I confused another TD yesterday by my use of the word. Therefore, he has decided that I no longer have the privilege of using that word any more when I direct.

Realize now that he has chosen to pick this fight with me at 4:50 in the morning ... 10 MINUTES before my show.  AND ... since he chose not to bring this to my attention in a productive manner I OF COURSE become very defensive and say:

ME: " ... so just because 1 person got confused once you are saying I get no other chances to use that word ever again and I have to completely change how I direct and you weren't even the person who was confused?????!!!!!!!!"

TD: ... YES!

TD: "NOW ... one more thing ... I think you are selfish. You said you put the show opens on the server and I told several people that you did and I find out that they couldn't find them. So you didn't put the show opens on the server then?"

ME: I put the Morning Show opens on the server. I chose to respect those people by not forcing my will on to their show. I did put a note out to all of the directors telling them that is what I had done and if they wanted to do the same they should coordinate with Mike Lasky" (Guy in charge of the video server)

TD: Well you didn't include me on the e-mail and I am the one who has to roll the opens so I think you should have told me!

ME: Well since you were sitting right next to me when I put them on the server I thought MAYBE!!!!!!!!! you might be aware of what I was doing, since I didn't put any other opens on the server at that time!!!!!!

Needless to say this escalated more before the Executive Producer came in and told us to stop. I found it very hard to stop since I was continually being pushed, poked, and prodded about how much of an iddiot I was and how selfish I was ...

You could have heard a pin drop after that ... everyone in the control room was very uncomfortable.

I guess this needs a little background.

Recently (week and a half ago) we began doing our broadcasts in High Definition. This changed many things about how we operate and where things are located and such. We are all still getting use to how things work and what the potential traps are in the shows. Needless to say I had a very nerve wracking day just trying to get through the show.

So after the show I went to the Executive Producer and talk to her ... apologized for my behavior which she told me I didn't need to do and she recommended I talk to my boss since this is not the first time this guy has done things like this.

So I ask my boss for a few minutes.

We had a great talk and he backed me up 100% and asked me to write down exactly what happened in a factual way and present how things could have gone better in our conversation. He asked me to be the bigger person in this situation. I will do that ... I have already started an e-mail and will finish it tomorrow.

After we were done with that conversation I asked him about some things related to me and my title as well as my pay. I have been doing a bunch of producing lately which I don't really like but if they are going to force me to do it I asked what the chances are for a title change and a pay bump. He was honest and straight forward wtih me ... he said he has something like that slated in his budget for next year. But, he couldn't guarantee me anything since we just lay-ed off a dozen people. How would it look to give someone a big raise after 12 people being fired. But he also said he would push it and try to frame it in a "we don't want to loose these people" kind of way and see how far he could get.

That made me feel much better. It truly does pay to ask for what you want.

More Mom and Missing Pup

OK ... So Mom came home on Saturday. She is doing well overall but getting around is obviously still difficult.

I got a SMALL glimpse of what slave_pug and nerdimus_prime have gone through with their mom's. My Dad needed me to take my Mom to the doctors today which I was very happy to do. Her appointment was at 9 AM so I was able to duck out of work after my show at 7 AM to run up to Evanston (20 - 30 mins North of work) to get her.

We arrived at the office about 20 mins early. I wasn't sure how long she would take to get in and out of the car as well as getting down from their condo (20th floor) and up to the doctors office (2nd floor).

All in all the Physician's Assistant was happy with her progress.

Back in the car for the trip home and get Mom settled for the day. After she changed Mom wanted to know a little more about the drugs she was taking for her pain and the antibiotics she was on. So I went on to Web MD and looked them up for her. She felt much better knowing what each of them was for.

After a short nap (mom's) I made her some lunch. Not long after that she was tired again and wanted to take a longer nap. She said I should go home. So after I cleaned up and started the dishwasher I went back home.

I have to say it is really hard watching someone you love in pain. I felt very helpless ... I wanted to just fix it, but I couldn't. So I did what I could to help. slave_pug I don't know how you do it day after day. You are truly strong!

As for the other thing in my life that has been completely filling my life and brain time ... I REALLY MISS murphyskinpup ! I want SOOOO much to be able to talk to him and tell him how much I love and miss him. Being that the Air Force can read every word I send to him in e-mail I can't really say the things I want to say. That has turned out to be harder than I thought it would.

The other thing about it that's hard are the frequency of his responses. Now before anyone goes and jumps down my throat ... I know he is busy over there and I don't expect him to write all of the time. I know that he is doing what he needs to in order to get finished what he went over there to do. Nor do I expect things to change. This is not a compaint about him, just the situation itself and nothing more.

I am incredibly proud of murphyskinpup and what he is doing. I wouldn't have him be anyone but who he is and I truly love him for it.

I am being selfish and want more contact ... but that is about me and what I want not about him. I just REALLY miss him!

Thanks to everyone who has been asking about him and my mom over the last several weeks ... I really appreciate it.

Mom update

Mom is doing much better. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed and commented I really appreciate it.

I went up and saw her this morning and she was much more alert and she was moving around a lot more as well. They are hoping to be able to discharge her tomorrow! YEA!

Now comes the P/T road and the rest of the healing process then we get to do it all over again when she gets the ankle.

Mom's Surgery

Today I spent about 6 or 7 hours with my Dad at the hospital in the waiting room while my Mom had the first of 2 surgeries on her foot.

This first one was to re-build the arch of her foot and re-align her foot. That was today and the surgery went very well. It took about 3 and a half hours.

The doctor was extremely pleased with how thing went. This will make the ankle replacement surgery that much easier when it happens.

When I left Mom as still very groggy but in good spirits. She was very glad I was there when she came out of the operating room.

It will be about 4 or 5 days before she can go home so I will be sepending the next several days up at the hospital keeping her company and staving off the bordom that is sitting in a hospital bed recovering.

Physical therapy begins tomorrow, hopefully all will go well.

OK ... so I was walking to the gym a day or so ago ... wind whipping around and snow falling. Not always easy to see where you are stepping .... when I kick a pile of dog crap.

FUCK! PICK UP AFTER YOUR FUCKING DOG I SCREAM.

Now ... it is not the dog's fault. I fault the owner. You want to have a dog? GREAT! AWESOME! They are wonderful! However, having a dog has some responsibility that goes along with it. One of those things being ... when you are walking your dog pick up after them rather than leaving a pile of dog crap in the middle of the sidewalk where everyone is walking.

DO YOU THINK THE DOG CRAP FAIRY IS GOING TO MAGICALLY COME BY AFTER YOU AND CLEAN UP SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO EXPEND YOUR PRECIOUS ENERGY??????

Now I know it is not just one person since the ENTIRE sidewalk from Lake Shore Drive to Broadway on Roscoe is filled with these landmines.

Now to top it all off ... there is an apartment building on the block about 3/4 of the way to Broadway that puts out small baggies for anyone to take specifically for picking up after your pet.

I want to put up a hidden camera and then post it to embarrass those that are doing it.

I know it is cold ... I know the weather has sucked but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pick up after your dog!
